TALENTED IN MATHS? THINK BIGGER!
Grade 9. Grade A*. Prestigious universities. Competitive degree courses.
It all begins with learning to think mathematically

Many able students become frustrated in school because lessons have to move at a pace that suits the whole class. Too often they spend time waiting for others to catch up, while their own questions, curiosity and potential remain unexplored.
My lessons are very different.
Rather than simply teaching students how to answer a particular exam question, I focus on helping them understand why mathematics works. We often revisit the fundamental ideas that underpin a topic, strengthening the foundations that everything else is built upon. Once those foundations are secure, even the most challenging problems become far more approachable.
One of the most rewarding parts of mathematics is discovering how everything fits together. Topics that often appear unrelated at school are, in reality, closely connected. Throughout my lessons I constantly draw these links, helping students see the bigger picture and develop a much deeper understanding of the subject as a whole.
I also believe there is rarely just one way to think about a mathematical problem. We compare different methods, discuss which is the most efficient and explore why one approach may be more elegant than another. We frequently use graphs, diagrams and technology to bring mathematics to life, allowing students to see what algebra and functions are actually doing rather than simply manipulating symbols on a page.
That's the difference my tuition aims to make.
By developing a genuine understanding of the mathematics behind every topic, students learn to think mathematically rather than simply follow procedures. They recognise patterns, make connections and tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence. In my experience, this deeper understanding is what separates good mathematicians from exceptional ones.
