My Quest to Offer Tuition which is Top of its Class!

Hello, I’m Angie — a dedicated professional tutor and experienced maths teacher with over 20 years in the classroom. I’ve held the position of Head of Maths in a large secondary school and work as an examiner, marking both GCSE and iGCSE papers.

When I made the decision to become a full-time tutor, I knew that classroom experience alone wasn’t enough. To ensure my students receive the highest quality support, I’ve studied the latest educational research and used it to shape a tutoring approach that truly delivers results. I understand how important your child’s education is — and I’m committed to helping them achieve their very best.

My Tuition Model — What It Is and Why It Works

Research consistently shows that one-to-one and small group tuition (up to three students) delivers some of the highest levels of progress — typically equivalent to six months or more of additional learning. But this only works when certain conditions are met:

  • Groups are very small (no more than three)

  • Students are carefully matched and have similar needs

  • Lessons target specific learning gaps

  • Feedback is timely, clear, and actionable

  • Students are actively engaged

My tuition model has been designed with all of this in mind.

Group Size Matters

I teach students individually or in pairs, occasionally in groups of three — but only when they are perfectly matched in ability and goals.

Why pairs? I've found students are more motivated and engaged when working with a like-minded peer. They learn from each other’s insights, ask great questions, and often explain concepts in ways that help reinforce their own understanding. It also makes learning more enjoyable — and when students enjoy learning, they thrive.

Tailored to Specific Needs

Effective tuition means teaching exactly what each student needs, when they need it.

Before pairing students, I carry out a thorough assessment to understand their mathematical level, learning needs and goals. Each program of study is then customised to support progress, building on core skills while staying flexible to address any gaps or difficulties as they arise.

Real-Time, Targeted Feedback

Whether lessons are online or face-to-face, personalised feedback is central to how I teach.

For online sessions, students use a second video feed focused on their written work. This allows me to see what they’re writing in real time and offer immediate, constructive feedback — just as I would in person.

This is why I’m confident my online lessons are just as effective as those held in person.

Keeping Students Engaged

Every lesson I deliver is challenging, varied, and engaging — combining:

  • Quick tasks to reinforce key skills

  • Longer, more open-ended problem-solving activities

  • Exam-style questions and technique development

My love of maths and extensive classroom experience mean I know how to bring the subject to life. Whether online or in person, lessons are interactive and discussion-based — nothing like the passive online lessons many students experienced during the pandemic. Cameras and microphones stay on, and I monitor student work throughout via a second video link to guide and encourage as we go.
